Good Enough Not to Die – Asklepion Diary
Directed by Erol Keyvan
Türkiye | 2025 | 17'
Turkish (English subtitles)

In the 2nd century A.D., the Asklepion of Pergamon was one of the most important healing centers of ancient Anatolia, a place where countless people sought relief from illness. Here, treatment was not limited to ‘science’ alone; rather, patients were immersed in an experience in which early medical practices included music, water, suggestion, and a conscious detachment from the everyday world. Good Enough Not to Die combines CGI reconstructions of the ancient world with the ruins of Pergamon as they exist today, transforming history into an experience felt through the body, the senses, and the realm of dreams.  Rather than adopting a distant, authoritative historical voice, Erol Keyvan’s short doc constructs history from within the inner voice of a body undergoing treatment inside the Asklepion, allowing viewers to feel as if they are primary witnesses to events of thousands of years ago. Framed by a narrative recounting the lived experience of a single patient, Flavia, the film renders visible the healing culture of this unique site, where ritual practices and the early seeds of scientific medicine coexisted.
